When an American executive bought a small, rustic farmhouse from Bally, the big attraction was the old fireplace in the house. However, when planning the remodel, it presented an obstacle to creating a modern home with history, comfort and a contemporary design.
The use of fine-grained materials in the bathroom and small-scale parquet flooring in the living areas made the rather small spaces seem more expansive and serene.
MACH's design solution was to replace the old fireplace with a new one recessed into the wall that would meet the aesthetic and functional demands of the contemporary interior. To make the most of the home's spectacular views of the nearby lake, MACH designed large window fronts that allowed views of the lake from almost every angle.
