MACH is responsible for the design of the coffee bar on the 2nd floor of the renovated Sihlcity mall. The café is located close to the new window facing Kalanderplatz and allows views of the outside space while the window sill becomes the coffee bar's bench.
The oval shaped oak floor creates a lounge island within the mall and is intended to invite people to linger. The bar functions as a take-away spot as well as a cosy coffee bar for guests to enjoy on site. The bar body was clad with a concrete-like material, inspired by the stones in the Sihl river. The counter is made of custom-made terrazzo with vivid colour nuances due to the incorporated marble remnants.
In order to bring the natural space along the Sihl into the interior, MACH developed a greenery concept. A spiral of plants which is hanging from the ceiling forms a kind of leafy canopy that gives the room an additional structure. A plant island at the window front and an overgrown column are also part of the greenery concept. The plants for sale strengthen the café’s natural design.
