As part of the Future of Work transformation, MACH developed a Gastro-Experience Playbook for Swisscom, which reimagines existing dining spaces as versatile areas for working, meeting, and social interaction. First realised as a pilot project at Swisscom’s Pfingstweidstrasse site in Zurich, the concept transforms the former staff canteen into a space that supports a wide range of activities throughout the day.
The layout is organised into a staff restaurant and a bistro, structured through clearly defined zones that accommodate different uses while maintaining a coherent spatial experience. A layered furniture concept – combining high tables, lounge settings, seating niches, and flexible table arrangements – creates a variety of settings for work, exchange, and informal gatherings.
Furniture, lighting, and the material and colour concept follow a consistent design language, translating Swisscom’s brand identity into a calm and contemporary interior.
Subtle interpretations of the brand colours red, blue and white into terracotta, ice blue, petrol, and cream white create a refined and calm atmosphere. Acoustically effective ceiling elements further structure the space and contribute significantly to comfort.
A key feature of the concept is the high level of flexibility within the main restaurant area, which can be transformed into an auditorium when required. Movable bench elements can be repositioned with minimal effort, allowing the space to adapt to presentations, events and respond to changing requirements over time.
Today, the space represents a new quality of everyday working at Swisscom. The former restaurant has evolved into a lively, multifunctional meeting place and a popular additional workspace within the campus, enriching everyday work life in a lasting way.
